$415,000 donated to support AIDS
and family services in the Gulf Region

Classical Action and our colleagues at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (our parent organization) have watched with sadness and concern the devastation that has resulted from Hurricane Katrina hitting the Gulf Coast. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, our organization has mobilized to respond to the needs of those affected in the Gulf Region –

a mobilization which is made possible by the countless hours of time and talent volunteered by the entertainment community over the past year in support of our organization, and by the innumerable gestures of generosity and concern from our donors.

In addition to the $100,000 donation made to the Red Cross on August 30 on behalf of and in the name of the theatre and performing arts community, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has made emergency grants totaling $250,000 in support of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. In keeping with Classical Action’s mission, it was determined that BC/EFA should reach out to the AIDS and family service organizations (ASOs) in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, the Florida panhandle, and Texas that were either directly affected by the storm – or which have seen an increase (in some cases a huge increase) in assistance for regular clients and those displaced by the destruction.

The year-round support for Classical Action and BC/EFA makes this kind of efficient, orchestrated, community-wide response possible.
