The support from all corners of the performing arts world enables Classical Action to produce or co-produce large-scale fundraising concerts and galas in major cities in the U.S., as well as more intimate events in the form of house concerts. Other events, such as Up Our Alley: Classical Action’s Benefit Bowling Bonanza, grew from a desire by the non-performers in the industry to actively participate in our fundraising efforts. The donations made and tickets purchased in support of these and other events make up a substantial portion of the funds raised by Classical Action.

A Dramatization in Words and Music of the Life of Violet Gordon Woodhouse

Maggie Cole, harpsichord
with
Harriet Walter, 2009 Best Actress Tony® nominee for “Mary Stuart” and Guy Paul

Exotic, talented and the inspirer of devoted passion from both sexes, Violet Gordon Woodhouse (1872-1948) was one of the 20th century's most gifted musicians. She became the English "Landowska" in her passionate and compelling desire to understand and bring back to light the particular beauty of the harpsichord. Her salon was a magnet to many of the most important artists of her age – Picasso, Diaghilev, Rodin, T.E. Lawrence, Bartok, Wilfred Owen and Vaughan Williams. A fear of convention and a searching nature led her to share her life with four very different men. Violet's story is told in narration and letters, offset by music by Bach, Scarlatti, Couperin, Mozart, Rameau and Purcell.
