Up Our Alley, Classical Action's Annual Benefit Bowling Bonanza, first got rolling in July 1999 at Bowlmor Lanes in New York City. For each of the past eight years, we have asked our friends and colleagues from all corners of the performing arts industry, and beyond, (New York Philharmonic, Universal Classics, IMG Artists, to name just a few) to form bowling teams. Similar to a walk-a-thon, each team seeks sponsorship in the form of tax-deductible contributions to Classical Action. This grassroots event not only raises significant money for a good cause, but it also affords the participants the opportunity to get together with their colleagues and co-workers for a relaxed, fun-filled evening.
After a few of hours of bowling, the festivities continue at the post-bowling party in Pressure, located just one flight up from the bowling lanes. Food, drinks and music are aplenty in Pressure, not to mention billiard tables for those that want to try their hand at a game of pool. Prizes are awarded by a panel of celebrity judges for such categories as "Team and Individual who Raise the Most Money," "Best Team Name" (past winners have been "Anna Bowlena" and "Who Framed Milton Babbitt?!”") and "Best Creative Form," "Best Team Costume," and "Best Gutter Ball."
Up Our Alley IX, held on June 11, 2007, raised a record-breaking $140,000. Since its inception in 1999, Up Our Alley has raised $730,000 for Classical Action.
